Chat export checker
Check a chat export before you rely on it. Runs on your device; nothing is uploaded.
Don't have the file yet? How to export it
iPhone
- Open the chat and tap the contact or group name.
- Tap Export chat, then Without media.
- Pick Save to Files or Message.
Android
- Open the chat, tap the three dots, then More.
- Tap Export chat, then Without media.
- Pick where it goes, such as Gmail or Quick Share.
How it works
- It reads the file in this tab. Nothing is sent anywhere.
- It works out which way round the dates are, and warns when the file cannot say.
- It shows the first and last dates, who wrote how many messages, and quiet gaps.
- It lists "media omitted" lines, deleted messages and lines the app wrote itself.
- Why it matters: 03/04/2025 can mean 3 April or 4 March. Gaps and left-out media are where a reader will ask questions.
- Reads WhatsApp .txt and .zip, plus Telegram, Messenger, SMS and iMessage exports.
Next, make a dated pack from the same file. Follow the rules of whoever will read it: see the guide to exporting a WhatsApp chat with dates.
Questions people ask
Is my chat uploaded?
No. The file is read in your browser tab and nothing is sent anywhere. Close the tab and the result is gone.
Which files does it read?
WhatsApp exports (.txt or .zip, iPhone or Android), plus Telegram result.json, Messenger message_1.json, SMS Backup and Restore XML and iMazing iMessage CSV exports.
Why does it say the date order cannot be told?
If every day in the file is 12 or under, day/month and month/day both fit. The checker shows both readings so you can compare one date with your phone.
Does a clean result mean a court will accept the chat?
No. It only describes the file you gave it. It cannot show the chat is genuine or complete. Follow the rules of whoever will read it.

Not legal advice. VaultXT is not a law firm and cannot promise any court will accept a document.
